True Greatness: Embracing the Servant's Heart
Mark 10:35-45
In Mark 10:35-45, we encounter James and John seeking positions of honor in Jesus' coming glory. However, Jesus reveals a path to greatness that contradicts worldly values: humble service. He calls us to reject the pursuit of power and status, and instead embrace a life of selfless service to others.
Jesus, the ultimate example of servanthood, came not to be served, but to serve. He calls us to follow His example, recognizing that true greatness in God's kingdom is measured by our willingness to serve. Serving others is an act of love, a reflection of God's heart, and a participation in Christ's redemptive work.
The life of missionary Elizabeth Schepping exemplifies this principle. She dedicated herself to serving the people of Korea, embodying Christ's love and compassion. Her example inspires us to embrace a life of service, even when faced with challenges.
Serving others is not always easy; it requires humility, sacrifice, and perseverance. Yet, it is through serving that we truly become great in God's eyes. Let us actively seek opportunities to serve those around us, sharing God's love and building His kingdom. By embracing the servant's heart, we become more like Christ and experience the true fulfillment of a life lived for others.
